Writing for Fun — and Money is a 3-week hybrid workshop experience for aspiring and early-career writers who are ready to turn their creative energy into real-world results.
Whether you’re writing for the joy of it, the income potential, or both, this program will help you build momentum, sharpen your skills, and make writing a sustainable part of your life.
Your workshop experience includes two virtual classes and a full-day, in-person workshop on Sunday, July 13 at The Black House at Rocklands in Berkeley, Ontario — a beautiful space for deep focus, collaboration, and creative breakthroughs.

The Venue: The Black House at Rocklands Market, Grey County
Rocklands Market is a 12-acre special event and multimedia studio facility in Grey County, just outside of Berkeley. Located 2 hours north of Toronto and 25 minutes from Owen Sound, the property and its wooded grounds feature meandering trails and a 2700 sq ft black steel modern barn studio. Parking space is provided.
The Black House is a spacious, modern, and fully accessible studio and event space created by chef, restaurateur, television host, author, and award-winning recording artist Roger Mooking for hosting special events like ours. It includes meeting space, a farm table dining area, full equipped kitchen, and accessible washrooms.
We’ll spend the day in the bright, airy Black House developing your writing skills and business so you’re ready to take your next steps. This could mean transitioning into a career where you get paid to write about what you know and love, improving your personal writing practice, self-publishing a book, or even getting published in top magazines and other types of publications.

Miranda Miller, Writer/Editor & Your Host
Miranda Miller is a career writer and editor, and a part-time digital nomad. She’s the Managing Editor of The Owen Sound Current, author of AI Content for Editors (2024) and Flowerpot Island: Then & Now (coming in 2025), and has run the Miller Schwandt Media content studio for over 20 years. In that role, she currently writes and edits for GlobalLogic, a Hitachi Company, Forsta, and Rio SEO.
Miranda blogs weekly at MidlifeNomads and Writers’ Den, where she shares stories, lessons, and ramblings about writing and life. In her 15+ years ghostwriting for business leaders, she was also published in Forbes, Inc, AdWeek, and dozens of trade publications.
Miranda has a homebase with a herd of people and pets, including her husband, sons, English Shepherd, and budgies, near Georgian Bay. About half the year (typically the coldest half), she’s digital nomads her way around the world chasing sunshine and trying all the foods.
She’s excited to share her knowledge and experience in the business of writing with ‘Writing for Fun – And Money!’ participants.

The Summer 2025 Cohort will receive detailed information about our itinerary upon registration confirmation. Here are some common questions that come up:
Do I have to attend the in-person workshop to participate?
Yes. The full-day workshop in Berkeley, Ontario on Sunday, July 13 is the heart of this experience. It’s where the deep learning, real-time feedback, and community building happen.
I’m not sure if I’m a “real” writer. Is this for me?
If you’re writing — or want to be writing — you’re in the right place. This program is designed for both aspiring and early-career writers, whether you’re writing for fun, freelancing, or dreaming of publishing a book.
What if I can’t make one of the live Zoom calls?
Recordings will be available for both virtual sessions. You’ll still get all assignments and materials, and you can submit your pitch or writing sample for feedback even if you can’t attend live.
How much time should I plan to commit each week?
Plan for 2–3 hours per week, including the live calls, homework assignments, and personal writing time. The in-person workshop is a full-day commitment.
Will I get feedback on my writing?
Yes! You’ll receive feedback from Miranda and your peers on either a writing sample or a pitch/proposal you submit. There’s also a live hot seat coaching element in Week 3.
What’s included in the $299 fee?
The complete package: two live group calls, the full-day in-person workshop with lunch, a printed workbook, and access to all materials and templates.
